FAQ
Is Honeycomb Packaging Recyclable?
Direct FAQ for buyers: when honeycomb paper packaging is recyclable, what coatings and adhesives break claims, and how to write recyclability language when sourcing from China.
Quick answer
Honeycomb paper packaging is often recyclable in paper streams when it is primarily paper fiber with compatible adhesives and without heavy plastic films or non-repulpable coatings—but recyclability is market-specific. Never claim “100% recyclable” without naming the structure and destination stream.
What usually helps recyclability
Paper core and paper faces, starch or other paper-compatible bonds, and designs without full plastic lamination. Clean, dry honeycomb pads are easier for mills than wet/contaminated packs.
What breaks the story
PE films, heavy wax/plastic coatings, mixed foam+honeycomb hybrids sold as “paper,” and undocumented adhesives. Soft-touch plastic films on faces also complicate claims.
How to RFQ honestly
Require a layer breakdown, adhesive notes, and whether the supplier warrants recyclability in a named market. Cross-read PackTrades’ recyclable claims guide before putting icons on artwork.
Buyer takeaway
Use honeycomb to replace some foam/wood for protection and fiber-based goals, then validate local recycling reality—and damage rates—before marketing claims.
