Mid-2026 Protective Packs Pair Air Columns with Edge Board Kits
Electronics and appliance buyers on PackTrades are writing air column bag outlines and edge-board strap paths into the same RFQ package, instead of approving foam nests and carton straps as unrelated line items.
Mid-2026 protective-packaging RFQs on PackTrades increasingly treat cushioning and strap-path protection as one pack system: custom air column bags for the product, plus edge board or U-edge protectors where PET straps meet carton corners.
Electronics and small-appliance buyers say foam-only nests still win on some irregular kits, but more SKUs are moving to inflatable columns when empty inbound cube and packing speed dominate the cost model.
Diflai-class air column converters report that buyers now ask for leak-hold checks after compression and for bag outlines that match charger bricks, bottles, or accessory nests—not only generic bottle templates.
At the same time, edge-board suppliers say strap-cut carton claims remain common when tension is raised to stabilize taller export pallets without protectors under the strap path.
Procurement teams are responding by attaching one pack-out drawing that shows inflated bag orientation, carton ID, strap lanes, and protector leg lengths before sample approval.
Why buyers care: a soft-touch housing can survive the cushion test and still arrive with crushed print corners if strap protection was never specified with the same rigor as the inner pack.
Buyer takeaways
Put air column geometry, inflation method, and leak/drop targets on the same RFQ as carton and strap details.
Specify edge board or buckled U-protectors under every strap contact zone on export pallets.
Approve a full packed pallet photo set before releasing mass-production packing instructions.
