RFQ checklist

What to freeze before you request a quote

These fields make China quotes comparable. Incomplete RFQs usually come back as unit-price guesses.

  • Board family: grey / black card / white card / kraft
  • Caliper (mm) + tolerance, not GSM only
  • Flatness, dusting, and ply-bond expectations
  • Recycled-content and odor documentation if needed
  • Pallet wrap and moisture barrier for export
  • Approved mill/grade and substitution ban

Buyer FAQ

Questions buyers ask before sourcing this category

Short answers for RFQ prep. Full buying guides are in Related Knowledge on this page.

What paperboard grades do rigid-box and carton plants buy from China?

Typical buys are grey board (chipboard) for rigid boxes, plus black card, white card, and kraft for cartons, bags, and inserts. Name the family and caliper—not only “cardboard” or GSM.

Why is caliper more useful than GSM alone?

Stiffness, wrap behavior, and lid warp track thickness and density more than a single GSM number. Ask how caliper is measured and the tolerance after conditioning.

What belongs on a grey-board RFQ?

Thickness + tolerance, density class, flatness, recycled-content documentation if claimed, odor limits for cosmetics/food-adjacent packs, packing/moisture protection, and substitution rules.

Can I switch board mills on a running gift-box SKU?

Not silently. Mill or grade swaps change wrap adhesion, warp, and magnet crush. Freeze an approved mill/grade pair and require a new wrapped sample before any substitution.
