What Is a Honeycomb Separator Used For?

Quick answer
A honeycomb separator is a paper honeycomb panel or divider used to keep fragile or heavy items from touching and to spread compression loads inside a carton or crate. Buyers use them for glass, ceramics, furniture parts, and appliance layers when a light, strong paper separator is preferred.
How it differs from foam
Honeycomb is paper-based and often recyclable in paper streams when facings/additives allow. Foam can cradle irregular shapes more tightly but may conflict with plastic-reduction goals.
What must be specified
Cell size, thickness, facing, compression needs, and pack layout with the outer carton. Unspecified “honeycomb pad” quotes are not comparable.
When it is a poor fit
Very irregular products that need deep cavities may still need foam, pulp, or molded fiber. Honeycomb shines at flat separation and load spreading.
How to validate
Trial the full pack with product contact and transit simulation. Check scuff, crush, and dusting.
