Quick answer

Source PP (polypropylene) strapping by locking strap width/thickness, break strength, elongation, and whether the strap runs on hand tools or automatic strapping machines. Price-only buying without strength class causes broken straps and cargo claims.

Where PP strapping fits

Unitizing cartons and pallets for warehouse and export lanes when steel strap is unnecessary. PP is lighter and safer to handle than steel for many packaging loads. It is not interchangeable with PET strapping on every machine—confirm tool/machine compatibility.

Critical specs

Width (e.g. common packaging widths), thickness, linear break strength, elongation, embossed vs smooth surface, color, and meterage per coil. Ask for tolerance on thickness and strength. Embossing can improve feeder grip on some machines.

Hand grade vs machine grade

Hand tools forgive more variation; automatic strappers need consistent stiffness, camber, and surface. State strapper brand/model when known. Test feed and seal/tension on your equipment before annual contracts.

System view with wrap and edge protection

Strapping often works with stretch film, edge boards, and slip sheets. Sharp carton corners cut straps—use edge protectors where needed. Do not treat strap as a substitute for a proper load plan.

Packing and storage

Coils should arrive with protected cores and moisture control. UV and heat storage can age strap—ask for storage guidance if inventory sits in yards. Confirm meters per coil and palletization for receiving checks.

RFQ fields

Width, thickness, break strength target

Embossed/smooth; color; meters per coil

Hand or machine; machine model if known

Annual volume; destination climate

Sample coils for machine trials; Incoterms

Common mistakes

Comparing price without strength class; mixing PET and PP assumptions; ignoring machine feed tests; and omitting edge protection on sharp loads.
