Comparison
Corner Board vs Edge Board for Export Loads
Compare corner boards and edge boards for export packaging: shapes, strap protection, load cases, paper grades, and when China buyers should specify each for containerized shipments.
Quick answer
Use corner boards (L-profile) when vertical edges and strap lanes need concentrated protection; use longer edge boards when full-length edges or pallet perimeters need coverage. Many export kits use both—do not treat the names as interchangeable SKUs.
Shape and duty
Corner boards protect 90° vertical corners of unit loads. Edge boards can run longer along top/side edges under stretch wrap or strapping. Wall thickness, leg length, and paper ply count drive strength.
When corner boards win
Tall appliance/furniture loads, strap corner crush, and clamp handling that bruises corners. Pair with stretch wrap tension control so boards do not cut film.
When longer edge boards win
Pallet perimeter protection, top-edge strap lanes, and loads where damage runs along a full edge rather than only corners. Some programs nest boards for freight efficiency.
