Quick answer

A usable zipper and tear-notch spec freezes zipper profile, opening/closing force, notch geometry, and leak criteria after cycling. Pretty pouch mockups fail when consumers cannot open cleanly or reseal without channel leaks.

Choose the zipper job

Powder, snacks, pet food, and wet wipes need different zipper styles and stiffness. State whether the zipper is press-to-close, slider, or another profile.

Set opening performance

Define first-open tear path, notch depth/position, and maximum force expectations. Multilingual instructions do not fix a notch that tears into the panel art or zipper track.

Validate reseal and leak

Cycle the zipper, then check for channel leaks with the real product where possible. Fine powders expose zipper weaknesses faster than empty samples.

Control artwork keep-outs

Keep critical claims, barcodes, and fill lines away from notch and zipper crush zones. Approve dielines with hardware overlays, not flat marketing renders.
