How to Spec Stand-Up Pouch Barriers for Food Export

Buyer guide to stand-up pouch barrier specs for food export: OTR/MVTR targets, laminate structures, zipper fit, shelf life, sampling, and RFQ fields for China flexible packaging suppliers.

Quick answer

Specify stand-up pouch barriers from shelf-life needs outward: product sensitivity, OTR/MVTR targets, laminate structure, sealant, and zipper or spout hardware. A pouch photo or “foil look” description is not a barrier specification.

Start with the product case

State food type, fill temperature, target shelf life, storage climate, and whether the pack is nitrogen-flushed or needs aroma retention. Oil, powder, and wet fills stress structures differently.

Lock barrier metrics

Request OTR and MVTR targets with test method and conditioning basis. Confirm whether values apply to the finished laminate, not only a film layer datasheet.

Name the structure

Write the layer stack, thicknesses, and any metallized or foil layers. Ban silent swaps of PET, PA, PE, or barrier films after artwork approval.

Include closures and seals

Zipper grade, tear notch, bottom gusset, and seal-window settings affect leaks as much as barrier film. Approve filled and sealed samples, not empty pouch blanks only.
