What Is Wet-Pressed Pulp Packaging?

How it is made

Fiber slurry is deposited on a forming tool, excess water is removed, and the part is pressed and dried. Tool geometry, press pressure, drying profile, and fiber blend determine wall density, surface smoothness, and cycle time.

Where buyers use it

Electronics nests, appliance cushions, food-contact trays where approved, cosmetic inserts, and export packs that need a paper-based alternative to foam. Wet-press parts often support cleaner branded surfaces than coarse transfer-molded trays.

What to specify

Part drawing with critical faces, draft, wall-thickness class, fiber type, color target, moisture content after conditioning, and any hydrophobic or wet-strength treatment. Photo-only RFQs leave those variables open.

Design limits

Deep undercuts, sharp unsupported edges, and very thin ribs raise scrap risk. Nesting of empty trays for inbound freight affects unit cost as much as raw fiber price.

Validation

Approve white or production-color samples in the full pack: pulp tray plus product, carton, and any liner. Check abrasion, compression, and humidity response before releasing mass production.
