Feel and surface

EVA inserts often feel smoother and more “premium” in gift and electronics boxes, especially with fabric lamination or clean CNC cavities. EPE is widely used for edge cushions, corner protection, and laminated sheets; it can be more static-sensitive or rougher depending on grade and lamination. Always approve foam color and odor for cosmetics/electronics.

Protection behavior

Both can protect well when thickness and density match drop energy. Dense foams support heavier items; soft foams cradle finishes. Sharp products may need higher density or plastic trays. Validate with drop tests of the full pack (insert + carton/gift box + outer shipper).

Fabrication and tooling

Common processes include die-cutting, CNC milling, hot-wire cutting, and laminating multiple layers. Complex multi-level nests cost more in machining time. Ask whether quoted density is nominal and whether layers are laminated with adhesives that affect odor or recycling stories.

Cost and lead time

EPE solutions are often cost-effective for protective shipping parts. Precision EVA nests for retail unboxing can cost more per set but reduce returns on high-ASP goods. Tooling/fixture needs vary—confirm sample lead time and whether density substitutions are allowed.
