How to Spec Water-Activated Tape for E-commerce Cartons
Buyer guide to water-activated tape for e-commerce cartons: paper grade, reinforcement, gum type, width, dispenser fit, fiber tear, recycling notes, and RFQ fields for China tape converters.
Quick answer
Specify water-activated tape from the carton board, ship network, and dispenser setup outward—not from a generic “eco paper tape” photo. Lock paper grade, gum type, width, and whether the tape must leave fiber tear on kraft or kraft-look RSC cartons.
Match board and closure
Recycled RSC, coated kraft, and dusty warehouse cartons wet and bond differently. State flute/board grade and whether flaps are overlapping single or H-seal patterns.
Lock construction
Name paper GSM/basis, fiberglass reinforcement if used, gum chemistry family, and tape width. Quiet, printable, or brand-printed WAT grades need separate artwork and adhesive approvals.
Validate with dispensers
Approve rolls on the actual water-activated dispensers or automatic sealers used in pack stations. Hand-torn samples do not prove machine feed and wet-out.
Plan claims and recycling
If tape must stay with fiber recycling streams in named markets, freeze structure and claim language together. Do not assume all paper tapes qualify in every region.
