Corrugated Sheet Spec Checklist for Carton Plants
Carton-plant checklist for buying corrugated sheets: dimensions, flute, ECT, caliper, moisture, warp, print face, conversion allowance, inspection, and delivery controls.
Quick answer
A usable corrugated-sheet specification controls more than flute and size: it fixes dimensions and squareness, board construction, ECT/caliper, moisture and warp limits, print face, bundle condition, and inspection sampling for your converting process.
Define sheet geometry
Give cut length, trim width, flute direction, squareness tolerance, and which face is outside. Include die-cut layout or minimum usable sheet dimensions so the supplier prices conversion allowance correctly.
State board construction
Name flute or flute combination, liner/medium requirements where relevant, and the minimum finished-board ECT. For sensitive jobs, include target caliper rather than assuming flute names alone will control thickness.
Control moisture and warp
High or uneven moisture produces warp, poor print register, and unstable die cutting. Set an agreed moisture range and warp definition, then inspect conditioned samples in the same plant environment.
Protect print quality
Identify the print face, liner shade, surface requirements, and any white-top grade. Test ink adhesion and rub on the production sheet, particularly if the board will carry high-coverage flexo.
Specify conversion behavior
Score crack, flat crush, pin adhesion, and die-cut waste are plant outcomes. Provide the carton style, score pattern, and maximum speed where board performance affects your line efficiency.
Set delivery condition
Define bundle count, stack height, pallet format, edge protection, wrap, labels, and allowed transit exposure. Damaged or loosely wrapped sheets can create a printing and die-cutting problem before production begins.
