What Are Hang Tags in Packaging?
Hang tags explained for buyers: materials, strings, print, and when they beat stickers. Spec before RFQ to China tag printers.
Quick answer
Hang tags are printed identification cards attached with string, plastic loops, or fasteners—used for brand story, price, and compliance text without covering product surfaces. They are not the same as self-adhesive labels or care labels sewn into garments.
When do hang tags beat stickers?
Use hang tags when the product surface must stay clean (soft goods, bottles with complex curves) or when multi-page brand copy does not fit a label panel.
What specs still matter under the nickname?
Board or card stock caliper, hole/string method, print finishes, and barcode placement still control cost and durability. Do not RFQ “hang tag” without those fields.
RFQ language
Size; board/card stock; hole style
String/loop material; print/finishes
Barcode/RFID if any; sample stages
Monthly volume; packing method
When is a self-adhesive label better?
Choose labels when automated apply, carton sealing, or ship-scan barcodes dominate over detachable brand storytelling.
