Quick answer
Specify thermoformed trays by material, cavity drawing, minimum wall thickness in critical zones, flange design, and sealing/lidding needs—not by a tray photo. Deep draws thin corners; thickness must be measured where the pack fails, not only on the flange.
Start from the fill and seal
State product weight, sealing film or lid type, and whether trays see MAP, hot fill, or chilled distribution. Seal flanges need flatness as much as cavity walls need thickness.
Lock material and thickness
Name PET, PETG, PP, or other grade, sheet gauge, and minimum corner/wall thickness targets. Ask how thickness is measured and sampled in production.
Design for nesting and denesting
Retail lines need consistent nesting without locked stacks. Draft, ribs, and stacking lugs affect both thickness distribution and packing labor.
