How to Source Plastic Buckets and Jars from China
How to source plastic buckets and jars from China: resin selection, capacity, closures, handles, decoration, tooling, food-contact documentation, and RFQ checks for retail and industrial buyers.
Quick answer
Source plastic buckets and jars by locking resin, nominal and brimful volume, neck/closure interface, filled-product compatibility, and decoration before tooling or bulk quotation. “One-liter jar” is not a usable spec without the closure drawing and application conditions.
Separate buckets from jars
Buckets are typically wide-mouth, handled containers for food, coatings, chemicals, or bulk retail; jars prioritize shelf appearance, opening geometry, and closures. They may use different molding processes and factories. Shortlist suppliers that regularly make your exact format and product category.
Resin and application
PP is common for many injection-molded buckets and jars; PET may be chosen for clear display jars; HDPE can suit some chemical or opaque-pack applications. Share formula, oil/solvent exposure, fill temperature, and expected shelf life. Obtain a filled-product compatibility trial for any sensitive application.
Volume and closure control
Specify nominal fill volume, brimful capacity, fill line, tolerance, and headspace. Provide the neck finish or lid drawing, tamper-band requirement, gasket/liner, and torque or opening targets where relevant. A container and lid sourced separately need interface validation before mass production.
Handles, seals, and transport
For buckets, define handle material, attachment points, grip style, and target carrying load. State whether an inner seal, induction membrane, tear strip, or tamper-evident lid is needed. Stack strength and leakage checks should use filled containers in the export master-carton or pallet configuration.
Decoration and tooling
In-mold labeling, screen print, heat transfer, sleeves, and pressure-sensitive labels have different color, MOQ, and lead-time implications. Clarify tooling ownership, cavity count, mold maintenance, and approval sequence. Approve production-color resin and decoration together.
