Quick answer

A workable foil and spot-UV specification locks artwork separation, foil grade, registration tolerance, substrate/wrap compatibility, and abrasion expectations. Pretty mockups fail when foil cracks on wraps or UV scuffs in shippers.

Separate the finish layers

Provide foil dies or vector foil layers, spot-UV plates/films, and base print files as controlled revisions. Ambiguous “gold logo” notes invite the wrong foil area or cheap leaf substitutes.

Match substrate and wrap

Rigid-box wrap paper, soft-touch laminate, and dark covers change foil bite and UV leveling. Approve finishes on the real wrap stock, not only on a flat print drawdown.

Set registration and coverage rules

State max misregister, minimum foil line weight, and keep-out zones near scores, magnets, and wrapped corners. Heavy foil on tight radii often cracks after wrapping.

Control scuff and pack-out

Test finished lids in the export carton with tissue, trays, or soft-touch contacts. Spot UV high points rub first—adjust varnish area or add interleaving where needed.

Gate samples correctly

Approve a wrapped production-process sample before mass foil/UV runs. Digital proofs do not prove stamping pressure or UV cure on the live wrap.

RFQ

Foil type/color; spot-UV drawdown; artwork revisions

Wrap paper/laminate; rigid-box structure

Registration tolerance; corner and score keep-outs
